Guatemala has the fourth-highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world and the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean. Currently, approximately 50 percent of Guatemalan children under five years of age are stunted due to chronic food insecurity. Within indigenous areas, nearly 70 percent of the population is chronically malnourished.  (https://www.usaid.gov/guatemala/food-assistance).

For many of the families, protein, vegetables, and fruit are not in their daily diets which results in lack of nutrient needed for growth and development.
Guatemala Relief and Compassion Effort provides a nutritionally-balanced meal five times a week for 160 children.  The children receive a protein, vegetables, fruit, and vitamin tablet for lunch.  The well-balanced meals help the children in their physical and mental development.
