Set up the chairs. Set up the tables. Take down the tables. Rearrange the chairs. Repeat. Every Wednesday. Every Sunday. Every School Devotion. Every Special Activity.
Twelve years ago, Grace Ministries built a feeding center for the children in our community. From the feeding center program, a church was birthed. At the time, we shared the building to serve the 40 children in the afternoon and the church congregation on Sundays.
Fast forward twelve years later and a lot has changed. Today you will see the building used to feed more than 200 people breakfast and lunch every single day. You will see a Bible Study on Wednesday night, a Ladies Bible Study on Friday night, a youth group on Saturday night, and a worship service on Sunday morning.
Several years ago, a pastor stood on the mountain and asked if we had ever considered building a church. We knew there was a need. We knew there needed to be a place set aside to corporately worship together. (This pastor may be very young, but he is wise beyond his years!)
Since the day of dreaming about a church, we’ve had several pastors and ministers come along side us with a desire to have a building designated for worship. After much prayer and confirmation, we believe it is time move forward with the construction of the church.
“Most of us in America cannot imagine not having a place of worship that we can be at each week. God has blessed us so much financially that really any church that desires to have its “own” building can do so. Yes, I am aware the church is not the building; the church is the people. Even with that being true can you imagine the difficulty of having to find a place to meet each week? Can you imagine have to rearrange a building each time you gather to worship Jesus? Hold that thought.
Most of us in America cannot imagine uprooting everything we know and moving to an underdeveloped country to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to unreached people. Even though we cannot imagine, some can and live this out daily. Some give up American salaries and live on faith that God will provide for all their needs. Hold that thought also please.
Many of us came to faith in Jesus through in our childhood years or teenage years. We are and should be eternally grateful for the people at home and at church that pointed us to Jesus. We were able to have children and youth Sunday School and even children’s church and youth Bible study because we had the space. One last hold please.
Do you know someone who seems larger than life? Someone who you say, “Does he ever had a bad day?” Do you know someone who loves life and people so much that you wonder, “Is something wrong with him?” Have you met someone who is willing to give up everything (location, family, income, luxuries, safety) all for others and for Jesus? I know that someone and it’s Soy Taylor. Yes, Soy is with the Lord now, but he will live forever in our hearts and minds and he will certainly live forever in his three precious children. Now, let’s put those thoughts together.
Soy moved his family to Guatemala about ten years ago for the sake of the gospel. One of his dreams was to have a church building that GRACE church could meet in. He was so excited as we started the talks about the opportunity. He was excited that the youth and children could have their own rooms. He was excited they didn’t have to rearrange every week. He was excited for his good friend Pastor Adam to have how own pulpit. He was excited for Jonathan to have his own sound area. He was excited because he loved his Guatemalan family, and He loved Jesus. He was excited that they would now have a permanent place to meet every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
GRACE Ministries is now starting the process of praying through and giving towards this dream of Soy’s to become a reality. I am thankful to be a small part of this gospel project. This blog is to ask you to prayerfully consider giving to GRACE Church project.
A couple of caveats. Bro. Teddy would get me if I didn’t say not your tithe. That goes to your church. This is a freewill offering and only if you freely will it to GRACE. Secondly, Bro. Teddy nor Deidra want you or them to worship Soy. We worship Jesus but the Bible says to honor those who are worthy. I don’t know the final outcome, but something will done in memory of Soy in this church. It may be a plaque. It may the Soy Taylor Children’s wing because he was the biggest kid I ever met. That’s up to Bro teddy and Deidra. All I ask is that you help make his dream a reality and give to this tremendous gospel project.”
