This week marks a major milestone as our seniors have officially begun their practice hours in the city! That means they are nearing the finish line of their high school education, and we couldn’t be more excited for them.

We are deeply grateful for the individuals and well-established companies in the city who have welcomed our students into the fields of mechanics and accounting. Their support is helping to shape real-world opportunities for our students’ futures.

Yesterday, twelve of our students traveled to the city and nervously began their first day of “work” with their assigned companies. While the day started with some nerves, the ride home was filled with lots of laughter and excitement. It was a long day since they left El Tejar at 4:45 a.m. and didn’t return until 8:00 p.m. They will definitely be exhausted by the end of the week!

Of course, we made sure they were cared for by having a bag full of hygiene items and breakfast waiting for them in the van. I told threatened not to use the cell phone during work hours, I’m pretty sure they ignored me!

Coordinating these practice hours hasn’t been easy. From building relationships with the companies, to driving students to interviews, to walking them to the right office doors, our team has truly gone above and beyond. A huge thanks to Denmar, Chino, Bryan, Hector, Danny, Delmy, and Julio since they have each played a vital role in making this happen.

Why does this matter so much?
These practice hours could open real doors for our students. We are praying that this opportunity leads to future jobs, and that company leaders recognize the potential in each student. Will you join us in praying? Pray that our students find favor, and that God places people in their lives who will help them grow and reach their goals.

Yes! Traveling to the city is a big deal! Just ask anyone who’s tried to drive there. Last week, our students did a practice run to all their assigned locations. It took them four hours just to find all of the locations!

This is a journey that will challenge them, help them grow, build character, and give hope for the future.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
