Attaching the roof to a new house.

One of the core activities that short term missionaries engage in while on a trip with Grace Ministries is home building. Everyone gets the opportunity to help build, even the medical professionals on days when no clinics are scheduled.

While it may not seem like much of a house to you and I, in the parts of Guatemala where Grace builds, this is a huge upgrade for the families that receive these homes. It’s a very basic structure: a 12′ by 12′ corrugated metal structure with a poured cement floor, a door, and a window.

Many of the existing homes are made of corn stalks bundled together or aging adobe. If the family tries to cook, there is no ventilation for the smoke to escape. These conditions contribute to the respiratory issues seen at the medical clinics conducted by Grace Ministries, especially in the most vulnerable…the children.

As the pictures show, people of every age contribute to the building effort. What about you? Is God tugging at your heart to serve in this way in Guatemala?
